Update: Working Towards a Better BTEC Gradebook for Moodle

Just a quick update to the previous gradebook concept I posted about yesterday.

I’ve now added a key at the top and also put together a mock-up of what the gradebook window will look like when scrolled horisontally, illustrating how the student list is “sticky” and hovers over the top of everything else rather than disappearing off the page…

Working Towards a Better BTEC Gradebook for Moodle

One of the main bits of feedback to come from BTEC teachers in the college has to be that the gradebook needs improvement. In the last few staff sessions teachers have expressed the need for a better overview of the course as a whole, with all students and all units on one page.

As a response to this feedback we have been working on the following new gradebook concept, this will be called the “Course Gradebook”…

The Course Gradebook shows all students and all units, displaying the students completion status for each assignment within a unit.

The Dashboard Concept is Born

Timeline sketch

The Dashboard Timeline concept was born, sketched out a sheet of my printed notes.

When discussing the dashboard during our last staff consultation session, one of the most interesting ideas we came up with was a timeline to show what the students have coming up throughout the year, so they can plan their time ahead. According to the teachers within the group, some of their students struggle to plan time and get overwhelmed during busy periods in year.
